One One Direction member’s mom is remembering Liam Payne the way he was – just a boy.
Harry Styles’ mother, Anne Twist, expressed her sorrow over the passing of Payne, who tragically died at the age of 31 on Wednesday, October 16.
In an tribute posted to Instagram the same night of Payne’s tragic death, Twist shared a simple message with her followers, writing, “Just a boy… 💔,” accompanied by a black background and a broken heart emoji. Her post comes hours after reports confirmed the “Both Ways” singer’s death following a fall from several stories at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which was confirmed by Policía Federal Argentina.

Fans were quick to express their own sorrow on the post, leaving messages for Twist, 56, as well as the rest of Payne’s family. “Please take care of the boys. Stay together,” one user wrote. “He had a huge heart. What a loss for those who knew and loved him,” another noted.
A third asked if the mom-of-two (who also has a daughter named Gemma) would take care of Styles, 30, during this difficult time. “Anne, take care of yourself and please take care of our Harry for us! Mental health is everything! We love you🙌.”
Styles’ mother developed a close relationship with Payne over the years, especially since he gained extreme fame alongside her son after auditioning for The X Factor UK in 2010. After Styles auditioned solo, the judges decided to pair him with other contestants, including Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, leading to the formation of the iconic boyband One Direction. Despite finishing third on the show, the group quickly rose to global stardom.
Local authorities revealed that prior to Payne’s death, the hotel manager called emergency services to report a man behaving aggressively, who may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. Pablo Policicchio, a spokesperson for the Buenos Aires municipality’s Security Ministry, informed the Associated Press that Payne “had thrown himself from the balcony of his room.” Unfortunately, when paramedics arrived, they found him deceased.
Payne is survived by his seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he shares with his ex-partner and fellow musician, Cheryl Cole. He also leaves behind his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
