Despite not achieving the best ratings in the show's history, the new host retained the attention of his audience, with the first week averaging 8.31 million viewers, according to the outlet. This signifies a 21 percent increase in viewership compared to the first week of season 41.It was announced in late 2023 that the American Idol host would assume the position after Pat Sajak's 41-year tenure as host ended in June. During the first episode of season 42, Seacrest was grateful and nostalgic about the experience, saying, "Thank you for the very warm welcome. Hosting Wheel of Fortune is a dream job. I've been a fan of this show since as a kid, watching in Atlanta with my family." He also highlighted the importance of the job, noting, "I know how special it is that Wheel has been in your living rooms for the past 40 years. I'm just so grateful to be invited in. One viewer said, "I thought the set was weird and Ryan seemed very uncomfortable." Another added, "I get that Wheel of Fortune replaced Pat Sajak because he retired, but why did they have to change the entire set?!" A third chimed in, "Ryan and Vanna look great and the first show was fun. Ryan will make a great host. I have to agree with most — the set — cold and unfriendly. Just doesn't look like much went into it. I'm sure they'll fix it."Nonetheless, the ratings speak for themselves, and it seems like Wheel of Fortune fans are in for a treat this season.
