Chappell Roan seemingly clapped back at a photographer while walking the carpet at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.Roan cursed out the photographer, who seemingly told her to “shut the f--- up" on the red carpet while she was fixing her dress.After hearing that, Roan, who had her back turned to the paparazzi, immediately turned around and yelled back, “You shut the f--- up."“Not me, b----," she added while looking at the same photographer.TODAY.com has reached out to Roan for comment.While it's not clear what started the altercation, some fans think Roan might've been sticking up for someone who was told to "shut up.""I think what happened was one photographer said 'give us something to look at' another person said 'shut the f--k up' and then she chimed in to tell the original photographer to stfu as well," a person commented on Instagram. While clasping a sword in one hand, she posed for photogs in a stunning Y/Project dress. In an interview with MTV, Roan said she had a "theme.""I'm not going to give it all away but I'm gonna say take notes," she said, hinting at some kind of upcoming reveal.This year, Roan has been nominated for four VMAs, including best new artist, push performance of the year, song of summer and best trending video.She told MTV on the carpet that she's "never won anything" before so she'd be thrilled to take a moon person statuette home. "Just looking out and seeing people who I've listened to forever or just like, really look up to, so that's the scary part," she explained ahead of her performance. "But it'd be crazy to win! That'd be awesome!"At the event, she told E! News, “I feel like I really did earn my way here and freaks deserve trophies.”Roan then referenced Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello. “It’s just like, damn, I’m up here with Miss Sabrina, and I’m up here with Miss Taylor, and I’m here with Camila. It’s cool to be around the pop girlies," she said. “For me, for a long time, I felt on the other side of that just because I’m a freak.”Later on, Roan would take home the award for best new artist.
