Robbie Williams was heard taking a swipe at Take That as he performed his epic BST Hyde Park gig over the weekend.

The singer jokingly talked about his former bandmates while he was between songs. The 50-year-old performed one of the biggest concerts of his career in front of 65,000 people, with former EastEnders actor Danny Dyer even making a surprise cameo on stage at one point.

Robbie talked about the highs and lows of his career including pointing out songwriter Gary Barlow “sang all the songs”. He also jokingly explained that when he found out the group was reuniting without him in 2005 after a nine year break, he wasn’t thrilled about it.

Despite his bitter jokes about the band, Robbie did go on to perform the song Back For Good and asked the audience to cheer for Gary, Jason Orange, Howard Donald and Mark Owen. Those attending said that it was obvious that Robbie was joking about his former band.

The Sun reported that an onlooker said: “It was all very tongue-in-cheek and pantomime, but you couldn’t help but feel there was still a bit of needle behind it. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter anymore. Take That are going strong and Robbie’s gig proved he’s still the ultimate entertainer when it comes to working a massive crowd.”

Robbie went on to explain that his concerts are no longer like they were when he first rose of fame. Speaking from the stage he said: “It’s not like the 90s. It’s very mumsy over here. One of them checked my temperature, one of them supported my back, but whoever that was over there is a magician because, I am not kidding you, this actually happened, somebody got their fingers like this [make pinching motion] and went right on my b***end. I’m not kidding you, that happened. They zoned in and went boom, like that. Thank you, you made an old man happy.”

Things became emotional later in the performance when Robbie paid tribute to Ayda and their four children. The couple are parents to Teddy, 11, Charlie, 9, Coco, 5 and Beau, 3. Robbie sang I Love My Life as his family watched on from an exclusive section. Another teary moment came in the encore when Robbie talked about struggling with self doubt, anxiety and addiction during the height of his fame – which is he since made a Netflix documentary. His family joined him on stage for the last song and hugged in front of a fireworks display that was set off from behind the stage.
