Lily Allen disclosed a rather jaw-dropping tale about being accused of trying to charm the beau of an “successful and incredibly beautiful A-lister” – and how she exacted her revenge.
The Smile singer, who is married to Stranger Things actor David Harbour, opened up on her Miss Me? podcast about a shocking encounter with jealousy while visiting Sir Elton John’s pad in France, which was part of her attempts to get a grip on her drinking habits.
The mum-of-two, 39 explained that the drama unfolded at Sir Elton’s plush home, telling co-host Miquita Oliver: “This was when I was managed by Elton John’s company and I’d been sent to his house in the south of France to like dry out for a couple of weeks.”
Discussing the fateful call that set things into motion, she shared: “And while I was there I got a phone call from somebody very famous at the time asking me if I could perform at a charity event that they were involved in she was asking me to sing a song with her boyfriend, who was a musician.”
“I was thrilled, but concerned about pulling it off, as she invited herself and her musician lover to rehearse in France, stating, ‘I said, ‘I’d love to but it’s next week and I haven’t got any time to rehearse because I’m in the south of France.’ She was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll come out there and we’ll rehearse with you.'”.
Yet things escalated during rehearsal when the chart-topping artist found herself at the centre of unexpected accusations: the other woman charged her with plotting to lure her less than alluring partner into an affair. Sharing the awkward moment, Lily recounted: “They come to the south of France, they arrive, and it’s like late afternoon and she’s like, ‘I think you guys should sing ‘The Sound of Silence’.'”.

“And I was like, ‘Ooh, I don’t know about that, I really don’t want to that’s out of my comfort zone.’ And she got the right hump.” I was like, ‘I think maybe we would be better suited to doing something like ‘Something Stupid’. I said, ‘Look, I’ll go downstairs with your boyfriend and we’ll practice the song and then we’ll come up and then we’ll sing it for you and see how you feel about it.’ And she grabbed my arm and she said, ‘If you think I’m leaving you alone with my f****** boyfriend you’ve got another thing coming’.”
Lily shared the cheeky details of how she exacted her revenge on a celebrity who gave her flak, by insisting they hand her an award at an illustrious bash. She spilled the beans: “And then they said, ‘Is there anybody that you would like to present you with the said award? ‘ I was like, ‘At what point in the proceedings does this award get awarded? ‘ And they were like it’s the penultimate award.”
“I was like, ‘There is no soddin’ way this person is going to remain composed that long, and if I can stay off the booze and keep my act together, she’ll be handing over the trophy while I’m looking absolutely spick-and-span and she’s a total wreck. And it bloody worked. The next morning’s tabloids had a field day: ‘So-and-so was totally sloshed’, juxtaposed with snaps of moi, all gleaming and glorious clutching my prize.”
