James Corden has been hailed as the ‘voice of reason’ after his ‘hellish’ flight from Portugal by a passenger onboard the plane.
The Gavin and Stacey star, 45 – who has had a number of high-profile showbiz bust-ups over the years – was papped in a spat with British Airways staff this week after travelling from Faro, Portugal to London Heathrow.
Photos taken of the actor in the airport show The Late Late Showstar speaking to staff, gesturing expressively. But, according to a passenger on the frustrating flight, any angst James may have felt was more than justified.
Speaking out about the ordeal, Vanessa explained that when the plane took off from Faro, they circled for about 45 minutes, never reaching altitude, before an automated announcement was heard declaring an emergency landing.

She said of the harrowing experience: “It was something along the lines of: ‘Gather your possessions as best you can, take off your shoes, and when you’re told to by the airplane staff, please adopt the brace position and when we land if you’re able, please find your nearest emergency exit and vacate the plane,”‘ reports Metro.
The plane, which had a technical fault, had to land in Lisbon where the holidaymakers were held on the tarmac for three hours before the aircraft was deemed unsafe for flight. Later, when they were finally allowed to get off the aircraft, photos of James appearing to confront airport staff were taken.
Vanessa says that the passengers were put in immigration queues, but ‘no-one was telling them what was going on’. Justifying James’ frustration, she continued: “The people he’s speaking to in that picture are the flight staff on our plane. I watched him fist- bump the pilot as he got off the plane, he said, ‘Thank you very much,”‘ she said.
Vanessa also said that when staff announced that only club flyers or gold flyers would get free hotel rooms for the night, James spoke up for his fellow passengers, who didn’t have the privilege, asking: “What about all these people who’ve got all these kids with them?”
The next day, when the passengers returned for their flight home, Vanessa claims James was once again a “really nice guy”, ‘standing in the same queue as everyone else and letting women and children in front of him’.
He also took selfies with his new friends and teased the upcoming series of Gavin and Stacey, according to the star-struck flyer, who shared: “I made a joke and went, ‘Oh if we’re all going to die. You could tell us how does the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special end?’ and he went: ‘Do you really want to know?’ and I went ‘Yeah.’ He went: ‘I can’t tell you.’ Then he said, ‘but do you want to know what happened on the fishing trip?’ and I was like ‘Yes! I do!’ and he was like: ‘I can’t tell you that either.”‘
