Jason Kelce and his wife Kylie were recently at the center of a heated exchange during their visit to Margate, NJ, over Memorial Day weekend, and the city’s mayor is personally apologizing for it.
The incident quickly went viral after it was posted online, which led Mayor Michael Collins to publicly address the situation. Taking to the city’s Facebook page, Collins wrote, “On behalf of the City of Margate, I’d like to formally apologize to Jason & Kylie Kelce for the experience they had in Margate City over the holiday weekend. As a father with young children, I know as well as anyone the importance of a date night with your wife and would like to offer a redo date night with dinner on me.”
People were quick to show their support for the Kelce’s and leave comments regarding the situation. “Some people just can’t control themselves. Kudos to the mayor!!!” said one user. Another user commented on the couple’s popularity, saying, “Unfortunate consequence of fame, people tend to forget that famous people are just that people and deserve privacy the same as anyone else.”

This kind gesture from the Margate mayor was in response to the holiday weekend altercation, where the couple was enjoying a night out when an aggressive fan approached them for a photo. One bystander was able to capture a video of the occurrence, which was posted online on May 28.
After the retired Philadelphia Eagles center declined, the woman became irate and shouting things at the couple like, “You’ll never be allowed in this town again!” In true Kylie fashion, she responded, “I can smell the alcohol on your breath, you’re embarrassing yourself,” as another man tried to intervene, stepping between the two.
Jason discussed his time at the Jersey Shore on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother Travis Kelce, highlighting the delicious chocolate chip pancakes at a local restaurant but omitting any mention of the incident with his wife. The couple seemed to enjoy their vacation despite the incident, with Jason noting that he had a blast at the shore.
Whether or not they take up the mayor’s offer, fans will just have to wait and see.
