Omid Scobie has slammed the “sick” and “disgusting” reaction to his “tasteless” post before Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis announcement.

The British author and journalist, who released the bombshell book titled Endgame at the end of 2023, and is also famed for co-writing Finding Freedom about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, recently came under fire on social media following a “tasteless” post he shared shortly before the Princess of Wales’ announcement.

On Friday at 6pm GMT, Princess Catherine of Wales released a video where she announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. Her diagnosis came after she underwent abdominal surgery.

Prior to the announcement, Omid shared a tweet on the platform X, which showed an alarm clock set for 6pm, the time that the Princess shared her cancer diagnosis with the world in the form of a video. Omid shared a screenshot of his alarm clock on X just before 5pm on Friday.

His tweet then sparked speculation, with some social media users angry over it when they learned what was being announced after it was shared with the world. “Disgusting man. Literal shame on you,” one user replied to the post, which has now been deleted.

And now Mr Scobie has reacted to the backlash for his since-deleted screenshot of an alarm clock set to 6pm. Taking to X to share a statement, he penned: “When there was word circulating that an announcement was coming from the Palace at 6pm GMT, I tweeted an image of the time for followers to keep an eye out.

“When the world, and myself, learned how serious the news ended up being, I removed the tweet to stop any speculation taking place underneath it.”

He then added how he finds it “upsetting and disturbing” to see how his post has been “portrayed as some sort of sick “countdown”. He added: “I try to shrug off lies like these, but this one was too disgusting to ignore.”

Reacting to Mr Scobie’s tweet defending his allegedly “tasteless” post, one person is reported to have replied: “You can delete the post, but it’s been seen. Who in their right mind posts a countdown clock on someone suffering from cancer,” as per the Express.

In his defence, Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu replied and said: “Well said and don’t mind the hypocrites Omid, there was nothing wrong with your post of the alarm in the first place. Papers were relishing the drama around Kate & posted all kinds of speculation. Instead of holding themselves to account they point fingers. Ignore them.”
