The Daily Beast has obtained a letter from the New York Police Department (NYPD) addressed to London’s Metropolitan Police force, shedding new light on an incident involving Prince Harry and Meghan that was previously mocked by many. The letter, sent by NYPD Chief of Intelligence John B. Hart on December 6th of the previous year, discussed a "dangerous" car chase in Manhattan involving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland.  This incident occurred on May 16th, following the trio's departure from an awards ceremony at the Ziegfeld Theater in midtown New York. The letter, which was referenced in a recent court judgment against Prince Harry, outlines certain security changes recommended following a thorough review of the incident. According to Mr. Hart's letter, the department discovered instances of reckless disregard for vehicle and traffic laws, as well as persistently dangerous behavior by paparazzi during the aforementioned incident. The paparazzi were reported to have operated vehicles, scooters, and bicycles in a manner that endangered both the security team accompanying Prince Harry and Meghan and the public. As a result of these findings, Mr. Hart indicated that there is sufficient evidence to pursue arrests for reckless endangerment. Despite these conclusions, no arrests have been made thus far. However, the revelations have prompted an immediate enhancement in the security measures provided to Prince Harry and Meghan during their future visits to New York, as confirmed by Mr. Hart.The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's spokesperson previously characterized the pursuit of the couple and Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, by an aggressive group of paparazzi as "near-catastrophic."
