Now, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, theGotham FC midfielder has officially confirmed her engagement to Matildas superstar Sam Kerr.
Mewis, 32, expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support she has received from her fiancée throughout her time in the National Women’s Soccer League, especially during challenging times like the 2023 World Cup when the United States was defeated in the quarterfinals.
Mewis said Kerr has “just been everything” to her adding that the Aussie player has her always has her back calling her “My biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain all, all of my crazy antics.”
Mewis & Kerr make it work despite long distance
The couple’s public love story began during the Tokyo Olympics when the two players were seen sharing an intimate moment on the field after the USA defeated Australia. Three days later their made their romance Instagram official.
Despite their careers taking them to different parts of the world – Kerr playing for Chelsea FC Women in the UK and Mewis a midfielder for Gotham FC in New Jersey – they have managed to maintain a strong and loving relationship.
