Grace Dent had to quit I’m A Celeb after ‘ruining experience’ for herself

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Grace Dent shocked viewers when she quit the jungle after a week.

The 50-year-old foot critic worried fans with her ‘thin’ and ‘ill’ appearance on Sunday night’s show, with the star admitting on camera that she just ‘wanted to go home’ after struggling at camp. After she quit, a show spokesperson released a statement saying: “Unfortunately Grace Dent has left the show on medical grounds. She has been a great campmate and will be missed by her fellow celebrities and viewers alike.”

Grace’s reason for quitting the show is likely due to the measly diet of beans and rice after spending most of her days ‘dining out and eating well’. As a food critic, she spends most days of the week eating fancy food at restaurants so the change in diet was a “shock to her system”.

The change in diet was one of her worries prior to entering the jungle, with Grace admitting she was “dreading being really hungry.” She said: “Everything is filling me with a real sense of dread, but I am especially dreading being really hungry because I tend to eat four or five posh meals out a week because I am a restaurant critic.”

Speaking at Brisbane airport on arrival on November 14, Grace also told how she had been dining out and eating well. She added: “My flight was amazing, I feel very well rested. I’ve eaten very well. I’ve been stocking up on delicious tastes because I’m wondering when I’m gonna taste them again.

“I think it’s going to be a real challenge. For the last week I’ve been eating in the most wonderful restaurants in London, you know, five-course dinners, all the wonderful foods that London offers. So, I think it’s maybe gonna be a bit of a shock to my system.”

While watching Grace’s reserved and quiet demeanour on I’m A Celeb over the weekend, viewers rushed to social media to share their concerns for the food expert. “Someone should check Grace’s pulse. That girl does not look well. #ImACeleb,” one worried fan penned.

While one fan shared concerns over how quiet the MasterChef star was, one user wrote: “Are we sure her jaws have not been wired shut? Never seen her so quiet. #Grace #ImaCeleb”. A third added: “Is Grace ok?? Think she needs checking on she looks so deflated #ImACeleb”.

Grace has enjoyed a fruitful culinary career, with the star being awarded Reviewer of the Year at the London Restaurant Festival in November 2017. Presently, she serves as the restaurant critic for The Guardian. She is also a regular critic on MasterChef UK for the BBC and has appeared on Channel 4’s Very British Problems.
