I’m A Celeb’s Jamie Lynn Spears in tears as she recalls teen pregnancy fallout

Jamie Lynn Spears became tearful when she recalled going into hiding following her teenage pregnancy.

The singer and actress, who is the little sister of pop megastar Britney, opened up on being pregnant at 16. Whilst in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here camp she decided to reflect on her life to campmate Fred Sirieix when the First Dates star asked her about where she lives.

Fred also asked what it was like growing up with a superstar sister and how both Britney and Jamie Lynn made it in the entertainment world. She replied: “Oh, I always say this. My mumma, not in a cocky way at all, my mum literally believed we were the best in the world. I think we grew up, all we ever did was sing and dance, that was our whole household, that’s how we were. We auditioned for a show called ‘All That’ and that’s when I was on ‘All That’ for three years before I did Zoey [101]. It was very successful.”

While starring on the children’s show Zoey 101, Jamie Lynn fell pregnant. She told Fred: “After I finished Zoey, I had my love of my life, what I thought, I decided to keep the baby. I was 16. The whole world was like, ‘You’re a s**t, you’re horrible your life is over…’” Fred asked: “Oh really? You felt it?”

Jamie Lynn replied: “Oh yeah. Because I got pregnant young and I was on a kids’ show.” Fred then asked how her parents reacted to the news. “Yeah, they had a lot going on. I just think they were sad I was in that situation but also it’s your baby having a baby. I had to go hide away for a long time because they [the press] were relentless,” she shared.

“I moved to Mississippi and literally hid. Put a gate around me. I had 20 paparazzi on me every day. They wouldn’t leave me alone. They came and lived in Mississippi, middle of nowhere. It was horrible. I hated it so much. I just wanted to be normal. I wanted my baby to be normal. Everybody told me I was going to be a horrible mum. So I was like I’ve got to raise this baby by myself and I did.”

Jamie Lynn became tearful as she said: “When I went away… when I first got pregnant…They didn’t want me to have the baby. A lot of people around me.” Fred said: “But you’ve been amazing. What you’ve done is amazing.”

Jamie Lynn said: “When I got out of that, I told my parents I was going to emancipate them, that way I could make my own decisions. I was secretly telling her I was going to doctor’s appointments. I was going to meetings with a lawyer… My poor mum, we put her through it. And so then she was like, she didn’t want me to do that, she knew that would mean I’d probably marry the father and lose my fortune that I’d amassed over the years of working… she said, ‘Just go baby…’. It was the first time I was in control. My mum did [come and visit]. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, why I wouldn’t take the easy route sometimes, but I just don’t want to.”

In the Bush Telegraph Jamie Lynn added: “I’m proud of where I’m at now. I don’t share it in a way of being sad or crying about it, but it’s like, I don’t know, I just… I’m really thankful.” Jamie Lynn was just 16 when she got pregnant and 17 by the time she gave birth for the first time.

Her daughter Maddie’s father is Jamie Lynn’s childhood sweetheart Casey Aldridge, who was 19 when their daughter was born. The couple were previously engaged but split in 2010 when Maddie, who is now 15, was just 19 months old. When Jamie Lynn and ex Casey split, her and Maddie moved back to the Spears’ home state of Louisiana where she eventually met her now husband Jamie.

Jamie Lynn introduced Maddie to the world when she was just three weeks old when she graced the cover of OK! magazine in July 2008 with her smiling mum holding her. The headline read ‘Jamie Lynn’s baby Maddie! Being a mom is the best feeling in the world.’
