Police have confirmed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were “recklessly” pursued throughout New York City last year.
In May 2023, it was reported that Prince Harry and Meghan were involved in a dangerous car chase as paparazzi pursued them throughout New York after the Women of Vision Awards.
At the time, a spokesperson for the couple said the incident was “near catastrophic” with reportage of the incident drawing comparisons to the fatal incident in which Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, was killed.

A new ruling regarding Prince Harry’s security in the UK has revealed new details about the incident that confirm the alleged incident.
In his official judgement, High Court Justice Peter Lane referenced a letter from the New York Police Department which confirmed the behaviour of paparazzi at the time as “reckless”.
Prince Harry’s most memorable moments
“The investigation had found reckless disregard of vehicle and traffic laws and persistently dangerous and unacceptable behaviour on the part of paparazzi during the night in question,” Justice Lane wrote.
“They had operated vehicles, scooters and bicycles in a manner that forced the security team, which included the NYPD lead car, to take evasive actions on several occasions and a circuitous route to avoid being struck by pursuing vehicles or trapped on side blocks,” he continued.

Justice Lane concluded that the NYPD statement provided “sufficient evidence to arrest two individuals for reckless endangerment”. Currently, however, no arrests have been made in relation to the incident.
The new findings differ to the account provided by authorities at the time, the Independent reports. In a statement released after the incident last May, the NYPD said while paparazzi made “transport challenging”, “there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries or arrests in regard”.

The news comes out of the same High Court ruling in which Harry lost his legal battle with the Home Office over his security arrangements.
The Independent reports that Prince Harry plans to appeal this judgement.
