As Sean “Diddy” Combs sits in a Brooklyn jail after twice being denied bail, one former federal inmate surmised how the disgraced hip-hop icon is being treated behind bars.
According to reality star Timothy Smith — who spent time in a federal prison in the United States in the early 2000s before starring on Married at First Sight Australia — recently told the Daily Mail Australia that the 54-year-old rapper likely isn’t receiving any “special treatment” due to his exorbitant wealth.
Diddy, who is currently behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, was arrested in mid-September and has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. (In addition to these charges, which he denies, over 100 more accusers — including minors — have come out to sue the Bad Boy mogul on more sex crimes allegations.)

“His money and wealth won’t get him any benefits,” Smith, who served over a year in federal prison for drug trafficking, told Daily Mail Australia.
“In the federal system, it’s so limited, you don’t get extra privileges because you’re rich,” the MAFS star continued. “You’re allowed a few basics like a tracksuit and sneakers from the commissary, but that’s about it. They do raids and if you try to stockpile, they take everything.”
Smith doubled down on his point that — no matter how many millions Diddy accumulated over his decades in the entertainment industry — it is worthless behind bars.
“His wealth won’t help him in here, nothing at all,” he claimed. Despite being treated like any other inmate in some respects — for example, Diddy eats from the same menu as all other prisoners — his high-profile status has earned him some modes of different treatment.
When Diddy first arrived at the Brooklyn federal detention center in September, he was on suicide watch — a procedure his lawyer claimed to TMZ was standard protocol for “new, high-profile inmates.” He is also reportedly in the section of the jail that is reserved for high-profile inmates who need special protection.
