Fans have shared their heartbreak over The Nelons’ final Instagram post – which they shared hours before four family members of the group were killed in a plane crash.
Family members Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber and son-in-law Nathan Kistler had been on their way to a concert with pilot Larry Haynie, his wife Melissa and the family’s assistant Melodi Hodges. Tragically, the plane crashed over Wyoming, killing all seven on board.
Just hours before, The Nelons had posted about their trip to Alaska for the Gaither Homecoming Cruise as they stood in front of their private plane. Clearly excited about the journey, they shared that they had stopped in Nebraska and were on their way to Montana.
“There’s our wonderful pilot right there, that’s Larry,” Jason was heard saying as he panned over to Larry before turning to his wife. “And this is the co-pilot who handles everything.”
As they chatted about what they were going to eat, Jason admitted that they were “all about the food”. Sadly, he ended the video by making a promise they wouldn’t be able to keep: “We’ll check in later.”

Heartbroken fans flocked to the comments to share their condolences, with one commenting: “Wow! No words… praying for their families and friends. I am sure this video will be one their families keep close to their hearts. May the Lord be near to all who knew them. PTL they are singing in Glory and we will all meet up again one day. #comequicklylord.”
While another wrote: “So hard to watch this now.” A third commented: “So sorry for this devastating loss! Such a wonderful family! Loved meeting them and hearing their beautiful harmony and songs. Praying for comfort and strength and peace for Autumn and family and all of their Southern Gospel families! God be with them and give comfort and strength and peace in the days ahead!”
Autumn Nelon Streetman, who is the fourth member of the group, wasn’t on the plane at the time and released a statement after the tragedy. It read: “As many of you have heard by now, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber, and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie, were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday.
“Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love, and support as we navigate the coming days.”
It has been reported that the plane caught fire after it crashed, sparking a wildfire as emergency responders and fire crews rushed to the scene.
