Britney Spears has insisted she didn’t write a post that went out from her X account about singer, Halsey, branding it “fake news.”

It comes after her account hit out at Halsey’s video for ‘bullying” – saying she feels “violated.” She seemed to write on X, formerly known as Twitter: “For obvious reasons, I’m very upset about the Halsey video. I feel harassed, violated, and bullied. I didn’t known an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all.

“I have my own health problems which is why I took down my IG account yesterday. I will definitely be putting it back up to show I CARE. I’m speaking with my lawyers to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and down right cruel.”

However, now the pop star claims that was “fake news” and wasn’t her on her phone. She wrote: “That was not me on my phone !!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it.” Hasley’s music video also gives viewers an insight into the singer’s personal struggles with health. “I shaved my head four times because I wanted to and then I did it one more time cause I got sick,” she croons at one point. “I thought I changed so much nobody would notice s***, and no one did. Then I left the doctor’s office full of tears / Became a single mom at my premiere / I told everybody I was fine for a whole damn year, and that’s the biggest lie of my career.”

Halsey responded with nothing but love for Britney, saying: “And I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will. you were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me everyday.”

In a nod to Spears, Halsey channels the pop princess during that era. The video even features a cameo from actor Simon Rex, who was linked romantically to Spears at the time. Prior to Spears’ social media statement, it had been reported that Halsey had got permission from Spears to sample her song of the same name on Lucky.

A fan questioned Halsey on Twitter (X) last week about whether Spears had any involvement in the decision to sample her song on Halsey’s upcoming single. Halsey, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, responded: “yes of course! I wouldn’t even dream of doing it without her blessing!”

Spears’ hit single Lucky tells the tale of a Hollywood starlet who seems to have it all, yet hides the pain “in her lonely heart”. The original song by the mum-of-two features the chorus: “She’s so lucky, she’s a star, but she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking: “If there’s nothing missing in my life, then why do these tears come at night?”

Halsey has put her own spin on the track, changing the lyrics to first person for her version, singing: “But I’m so lucky, I’m a star, but I cry, cry, cry in the lonely heart thinking: “If there’s nothing missing in my life, then why do these tears come at night?” The Mirror has approached representatives for Halsey for comment on this story.
