Alec Baldwin has made his way to court today as his involuntary manslaughter trial kicks off.

Baldwin’s demeanour appears significantly more troubled today as the jury has been selected and the trial is due to commence in earnest. Despite donning a vibrant pink shirt, his expression was one of deep concern for what lies ahead.

The trial got underway on Tuesday at the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe, New Mexico, beginning with the selection of the jury. Baldwin was accompanied by his lawyer Alec Spiro and his wife Hilaria Baldwin.

The process of selecting the jury was delayed by two hours due to technical issues. Finally, twelve jurors and four alternates – five men and 11 women – were picked by special prosecutors from Santa Fe County and Baldwin’s defence team. Baldwin was also present in court on Monday with his attorney for hearings related to legal motions in the involuntary manslaughter trial, reports the Mirror US.

The case against Baldwin centres around the tragic shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western film Rust in 2021. Baldwin faces charges of involuntary manslaughter for his alleged role in the incident.

Baldwin was reportedly holding the firearm that discharged and led to the death of the filmmaker. However, he insists he did not pull the trigger and vehemently denies knowing there were live rounds in the gun.

The charges against Alec were initially dropped when the firearm involved was damaged during an FBI probe, preventing experts from examining it. However, in February 2024, when the weapon was pieced together again, ballistics specialists gave their opinion leading to the reinstatement of the charges.

In their professional evaluation, ballistics authorities Lucien and Michael Haag said: “This fatal incident was the consequence of the hammer being manually retracted to its fully rearward and cocked position followed, at some point, by the pull or rearward depression of the trigger.

Although Alec Baldwin repeatedly denies pulling the trigger, given the tests, findings and observations reported here, the trigger had to be pulled or depressed sufficiently to release the fully cocked or retracted hammer of the evidence revolver.” Alex Baldwin’s defence solicitors, Lukas Nikas and Alex Spiro, told Mirror US: “We look forward to our day in court.” The trial continues.
