Ant McPartlin has come to the defence of Fred Sirieix – after thousands of viewers criticised him for laying into camp cook Josie Gibson.
This Morning host Josie, 38, took over the role of cook in camp from Fred, 51, who is a trained chef and he has struggled to bite his tongue watching how she prepares meals. In one scene he described it as like “watching a horror movie” and in others he openly criticised her food or the way she chose to cook a kangaroo tail which ended up taking around four hours.
Host Ant said: “I know a lot of you are going ‘Fred get off her back’. But, can I just say something here… Josie isn’t listening to what he is saying.
“It did take a long time to cook that (kangaroo) tail, a hell of a long time. That was too long. And if she had listened to Fred she could have had the bone for stock tomorrow. I’m just going to stick up for Fred here a second because he knows what he is talking about.” Co-host Declan Donnelly was less sure about who was in the right though and sat on the fence.

Speaking on instagram, Dec said: “He definitely does know what he is talking about I will give him that. However, he doesn’t stop talking about knowing what he’s talking about. He’s just got to let it go. I can see both sides.”
After one rant from Fred, Josie urged him to “let me take the reins”. But he continues to criticise her kitchen skills in the bush telegraph. At one point he said: “She’s the Frank Sinatra of chefs, she’s doing it her way.”
Fred has been relegated to the role of pot washer. This was partly revenge by Nella Rose as when he was the chef he criticised the way the pots and pans were washed and demanded they be re-washed sometimes.
