Taylor Swift‘s publicist Tree Paine is speaking out against Deuxmoi, the anonymous Instagram account that has gained a following in recent years for its celebrity gossip posts, often running anonymous messages from sources.
The site posted to its Instagram story earlier Thursday a strongly worded post that insisted Taylor Swift had gotten married, seemingly to ex Joe Alwyn, in a U.K. ceremony in either 2020 or 2021.
“She DID have a ceremony in either 2020 or 2021 in the UK and it was described to me as a ‘marriage’ by more than one person. It was NEVER made legal,” Deuxmoi wrote on its Instagram story over a post from a user speculating about Swift relationships. “I will die on this hill! Put it on my tombstone! I have no reason to lie, I could give a shit what she does!!!!! I’m sorry she didn’t tell you guys about it in a song but just because she doesn’t sing about something doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!!!”
Late Thursday night, Paine posted a screenshot of the story to her X (formerly known as Twitter) account and wrote, “Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi. There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these.”
The statement marks a rare comment from Paine, who often stays out of the spotlight, on Swift’s personal life.
After Payne’s response, Deuxmoi posted in response to another deleted post, again to its Instagram story, that it makes “zero dollars from lying” and wondered “can publicists say the same.”
“Either way, I apologize to Taylor,” the post from the anonymous account ended.
Swift and longtime boyfriend Alwyn reportedly broke up earlier this year, after more than six years together.
Swift on Wednesday released the song “You’re Losing Me,” which details the end of a longterm relationship, on streaming services, which producer Jack Antonoff said in his own Instagram story on Wednesday was recorded on Dec. 5, 2021.
If it was written in 2021 and Swift was singing about Alwyn, that would suggest their relationship was in trouble long before reports of their split emerged.
Deuxmoi also ran a post from someone speculating that “You’re Losing Me” was about a miscarriage, which was deleted after Paine posted to X.
The pair were often the subject of engagement rumors, with Swift singing in her Midnights song “Lavender Haze,” “All they keep asking me is if I’m gonna be your bride / the only kinda girl they see is a one night or a wife.”
Swift told fans ahead of the album’s release that the track was inspired by “weird rumors” and “tabloid stuff” she and Alwyn faced during their relationship.
“This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff,” she added at the time.
Swift has recently been linked to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
