Just days before the death of The Pogues star Shane MacGowan, his wife Victoria Mary Clarke posted a picture of the couple on their wedding day to mark their five year anniversary.
Four days after her post, the singer died aged 65 after battling a number of health issues over the years. Taking to social media, the wife of the late star wrote: “One of my favourite pictures of our wedding which was five years ago today. Getting to Copenhagen was quite an achievement and I suppose just getting through some of the stuff that we all went through to get to be still alive was a massive achievement!”

She added: “It was a beautiful thing to feel so much love from everyone who made it possible, a wedding is very much a collaboration.” Victoria is seen in the throws of laughter in a red dress while holding a bouquet of flowers. Sat beside her, Shane is seen leaning in for a kiss dressed in a blue suit teamed with a black hat.
The couple tied the knot in an intimate wedding surrounded by friends and family. On the back of her post, more than 8,000 fans of the late singer liked her post. And some replied with messages of love. One person wrote: “God bless you for many years more.” And another said: “Happy anniversary a few days late.” News of The Fairytale of New York singer’s death was announced today by his wife. Alongside a black and white picture of Shane holding a glass and a cigarette which was taken during the singer’s younger years, she captioned the post saying: “I don’t know how to say this so I am just going to say it. “
She added: “Shane who will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love of my life and the most beautiful soul and beautiful angel and the sun and the moon and the start and end of everything that I hold dear has gone to be with Jesus and Mary and his beautiful mother Therese. I am blessed beyond words to have met him and to have loved him and to have been so endlessly and unconditionally loved by him and to have had so many years of life and love and joy and fun and laughter and so many adventures. There’s no way to describe the loss that I am feeling and the longing for just one more of his smiles that lit up my world.”
Victoria ended her announcement saying: “Thank you thank you thank you thank you for your presence in this world you made it so very bright and you gave so much joy to so many people with your heart and soul and your music. You will live in my heart forever. Rave on in the garden all wet with rain that you loved so much You meant the world to me.”
