Jamie Lynn Spears had her campmates consoling her as she shared the chilling moment her daughter drowned.

The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant was talking about her life in Louisiana when she revealed her daughter Maddie died and had no pulse before a priest read her last rites to her. The tot was airlifted to hospital after being caught in fishing netting in a pond.

Jamie, 32, said her daughter was around eight or nine and her relatives instantly had to jump into the pond to try and save her life. In a heartbreaking admission, the former Zoey 101 star said “she was not alive” when emergency medical staff arrived on the scene after her mother-in-law called 911.

Opening up to her campmates, she said: “I almost lost my oldest daughter… she drowned and we couldn’t save her. We tried really hard. She was trapped under a little side-by-side that we ride around our pond. This is in 2017.

“She was 8 or 9 or something like that. My father-in-law, my mother-in-law, me and my husband, we run to jump in to save her and you kind of in that moment you think, this is not real, she’s going to pop up, this isn’t real. I could feel her arm, and I’m jerking it, I couldn’t get her up because it’s a pretty heavy machine. In that moment you think, you know logically she’s been underwater too long… Nobody can live if they’ve been underwater this long. You logically are thinking these things.

“Then you hear the sirens coming. Thank god my mother-in-law, first thing she did was call 911… she was caught in the safety netting. So when they got there, she was not alive. They took her from me and they incubated her.” The younger sister of Britney Spears continued: “I was sitting on the rocks, I’d thrown up on myself, the adrenalin, then I heard her [my mother-in-law] call my mum and say, ‘Lynne, we’ve lost Maddie.’ Then the firefighter came over 3 seconds later and was like, ‘We’ve got a pulse, we’ve got a pulse.’

“They airlifted her… she’s hooked up on life support, breathing machines and all that… they come in, a priest to read her her last rights, and when they did, her body physically sat up, her spirit responded to it for whatever reason… She got better and better every day and walked out of the hospital. This has no repercussions. So that’s when I became Catholic. For about five minutes I thought I’d lost my daughter and then I was given the miracle of having her back. My biggest fear was she was going to die thinking her momma wasn’t trying to save her.”

Fans have since reacted to the news, with one writing on X, formerly Twitter : “I feel for Jamie and her daughter. #ImACeleb.” As a second went on to write: “Can’t lie Jamie Lynn’s story about her daughter nearly losing her life got me all emotional. I’ve experienced God in that moment in time when I thought I was losing my daughter and my faith along with God came through in an unimaginable way #ImACelebrity.”

“That situation Jamie Lynn described is top-tier trauma for a parent, you could see the emotion in her as she retold it and if you don’t feel empathy you literally can’t be human imo #ImACeleb,” said another. While another follower commented: “What a horrific story of Jamie Lynn nearly losing her daughter like that, so pleased she ended up ok & making a full recovery #imaceleb.”
