Fans blast ‘mean girl’ Blake Lively after grovelling apology to Kate Middleton

A Kate Middleton joke has backfired badly for Blake Lively, who has made a grovelling apology following the shock announcement of the future Queen’s cancer diagnosis.

With many celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, jumping on the social media trend of poking fun at Princess Catherine’s whereabouts prior to her announcement, speculation and conspiracy theories were rife until the video was broadcast on Friday.

Following Kate’s heartbreaking video announcing she was battling cancer, the Gossip Girl star took to her Instagram stories to apologise for her ill-advised post following the ‘photoshop furore’, after a photo of Kate and her three children was posted on Mother’s Day, before promptly being pulled from news sites after it was recalled for being edited.

The actress, 36, had shared a now-deleted post on her Instagram on March 15, promoting her Betty Buzz drink line and poking fun at the future Queen.

Seen in the post sitting next to a pool holding a can of her drink, the image had an enlarged thumb and a lemon floating over her head, with the caption: “I’m so excited to share this new photo I just took today to announce our 4 new @bettybuzz & @bettybooze products! Now you know why I’ve been MIA.”

However after it was revealed that Kate has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy since February, Lively was quick to lead the apologies via her Instagram stories, confessing to being ‘mortified’ at mocking Middleton

“I’m sure no one cares today, but I feel like I have to acknowledge this,” she said. “I made a silly post around the ‘Photoshop fails’ frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today. I’m sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always.”

However, fans of the American actress have been left dismayed at her behaviour and subsequent apology, with some calling it ‘pathetic’ and others saying she should be ‘ashamed of herself.’

She was also accused of hypocrisy after keeping her children’s names and genders secret, while ‘shamelessly mocking’ Kate for wanting privacy post-abdominal surgery.

In the comments section of her most recent Instagram post (after her Photoshop jibe was promptly deleted) fans slammed her behaviour, calling her a ‘mean girl’.

“That was a cruddy apology,” said one. “You tried to use another woman’s trauma to sell cocktails. And now you are mortified.”

Another commented: “That’s one pathetic ‘apology’. Pride comes before a fall. Don’t be surprised by the backlash.”

“For your information, honey, you can’t claim to be a feminist, or supporter of women after this thing,” added another, while one simply said: “Mean girl…no class.”

“We don’t need your love and well wishes. You owe it to one person!”
